Temple Decorum

You should discard your ego along with your slippers

You should observe serenity when you visit the temple to have darshan. You should not try to exhibit your possessions. This is a good quality that everyone must imbibe.

Some people have the habit of wearing their best silk clothes and jewels to the temple. They are surrounded by priests intent on flattering them. Have these people come to worship God or to flaunt their wealth? They would have booked for an Abhishekam. The way they boast about it, it will seem as if they have taken possession of the Lord for three hours. Half a penny worth government officers and Tahsildhars will be accompanied by a dawali; what is the need for a police uniform or dawali for visiting a temple?

You should approach God as a devotee not as an officer or politician or V.I.P. You should discard your ego along with your slippers when you enter the temple premises. Only then will you advance. Other devotees will also not be affected by you. Everyone can worship God in peace.

Joy and sorrow are illusory. In reality, there is no joy, no sorrow. Wisdom is the state of being neither in joy, nor in sorrow.
